DirectTV seems to understand that in order to remain popular in this new streaming digital world, it needs to find ways to deliver content faster and easier than their competitors. And this app did it!
This app allows you stream movies from anywhere (but of course you still need a place that has internet access). It is not like other cable providers that they requires you to be on the internet connection that are solely provided by the cable provider. With the current enhancements of the app, the content is now available outside of your home network and can be streamed over 3G, 4G or WiFi. Furthermore, social networking has also been upgraded in order for you to tweet excitingly about the shows and discuss in a virtual group.
The app is pretty good since on top of the functions mentioned above it still offers the ability for you to use your iPad as a universal remote to see what’s coming up next, schedule recordings or review your playlist. Now do app developers get the direction of developing an app that is popular, and to influence people and become city’s hot topic?
I hardly see the DirecTV app as popular. I mean, you still have to be at home to stream from the paltry choice of channels, plus you can’t stream anything from your DVR. I’m really not impressed with the DirecTV app, especially since I’ve been able to do more for the longest time. I have a Hopper at home with a Sling Adapter connected, along with the DISH Remote Access app on my iPad. They work together to let me watch any live TV channel that I subscribe to on my iPad. Also, I can stream anything that I have on my DVR. Of course, I can stream anywhere that I have a cellular or wifi connection, whether it’s at DISH where I work or in the library waiting for class to start. DirecTV sure made a big deal of their iPad app, but the DISH Remote Access app beats it by a long shot.
